ABOUT

LUC. was established in 2013. The first solo retail venture for Lucy Given.  Lucy has 30 years experience in both commercial and residential interior design and retail.  It was very much a natural progression, from being immersed in design projects and sourcing product to providing a retail outlet for great design that led to opening the door of LUC.
With a depth of knowledge and a confidence from experience, Lucy has curated an eclectic and visually beautiful range of homewares, furniture, art and fashion.  LUC. has established itself as a go-to source for design and a showcase for interesting, iconic, well-designed product.
In 2016 the business was awarded Best Homewares retailer of the year (by Gift Guide Australia) and went on to represent Australia in Chicago at The Global Innovations Awards  –  Lucy was honoured to win the Martin M. Pegler Award for Visual Merchandising Excellence.
In 2017 LUC. was a finalist  in the Life Instyle GALA awards
In 2018 the store was the winner of Retailer of the Year at the Life Instyle GALA awards.
In March 2019 Lucy was the winner of the Tasmanian Small Business Award in the Telstra Women’s Business Awards.
In September 2019 LUC. Design  was recognised as one of Australia’s Remarkable Retailers by Vend, in partnership with the National Retailers Association – rewarding retailers with unique stories as a result of their innovative and inspirational journeys
Lucy has  presented lectures on Creating on Online retail destination, Store Design, Visual Merchandising and Successful Regional Retail at both the Reed Gift Fairs and Life Instyle, and has been honoured to be a judge for Design Tasmania’s 2018 and 2020 Design Awards
“Tasmania is an island State – and is somewhat isolated from mainland Australia. I grew up here in Hobart but lived away for most of my adult life because I believed the ‘rest of the world was out there’. I have been lucky enough to live not only in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane but in London, Florence and (my special home) Byron Bay. But Tasmania is like the Hotel California – you can check out but never leave. With the advent of the amazing art gallery and museum MONA, and the growth and popularity of cold-climate wines and pure food, there is now a genuine feeling of optimism, pride and excitement about what Tasmania has to offer. The extraordinary quality of the food, the restaurants, the wine, the art, the festivals and now there is some great retail to offer too! Whenever I travel I seek out great experiences – whether that be food and wine, entertainment or shopping and I know that is what travelers expect when they come to Hobart – but the local population is justifiably discerning and demanding of this also, and LUC. provides a source for international, iconic, interesting and unique design not seen previously in Tasmania.”
