Introducing The Sunday Shoe la scarpa della domenica.
Conceived 80 years ago, The Sunday Shoe was entirely hand made by women from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy.
Their resourceful and unique approach utilised re purposed materials, available at the time, such as the rubber from bicycle tyres, hessian grain bags and tattered household upholstery fabrics.
This lightweight shoe became the solution to maintaining the essential philosophy that rules the lives of Italians, then and today, la bella figura. An unspoken phrase that translates into making a good impression, even during unfavourable economic times, by wearing your Sunday Best.
Todays construction of the shoe uses the same traditional methods, whereby the top part, la tomaia, is hand-stitched to the bottom part, la suola, using a waxed thread. The rubber sole is machine stitched so as to avoid the use of glue, allowing breathability and maximum comfort.
