Kay Bojesen (1886-1958) is recognised as one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. Training as a silversmith at the Georg Jensen workshop he was then inspired, after the birth of his son Otto, to create wooden children’s toys. And this is where his story as one of Denmark’s most prolific artisans perhaps began. Bojesen’s toys have soul and an impish sense of humour, he brings wood to life. All his animals are incredibly playful and as such are enjoyed by both children and adults alike. You can’t help but play with them, and there lays their beauty- they bring out a bit of cheekiness in all of us.

The Hippo was created in 1955 as a fun yet functional desktop item for managing pencils. A classic and dear friend this little Hippo will no doubt remain a life long companion passed from generation to generation.
